Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
Does it favour the bigger teams?

Terrible rule change

Is our squad big enough to have 5 subs on the bench?

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
It certainly doesn't favour us, given Moyes' usual lack of proactivity on the subs front. When it was 5 subs during lockdown we were one of the clubs who made fewest subs, and I don't see that changing.

Changes the game quite dramatically. Massively favours those teams with multiple high quality players for one position. Enables those squads to keep more good.players happy by offering more game time.

I'm not looking forward to it from a West Ham perspective, as I don't believe we have the quality in the squad to benefit from it.

But putting a neutral's hat on...it just makes it different. Don't see it as making it better or worse as a game. But I think it will increase disparity between the club's that can have more high quality players on their books.

I'm still on the fence about this, I mean it was inevitable anyway as that's how it's gone recently in Europe etc and kind of fits in with the modern game. With 7 subs I suppose it was a bit daft that you could only use 3 of them. As for will it benefit the bigger teams, possibly, but not convinced. Let's see first of all how often all 5 are used.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
Looking at average subs per game from last season, we were 2nd lowest, behind Man City (who constantly rotate their squad, unlike us). We were also 2nd lowest in terms of average game time for the subs we did make, as they usually came on so late.

This is going to mean the games will last longer.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
They can still only make subs 3 times in a match, so it probably won't make much difference to added on time.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
No.

It very much favours the bigger and wealthier teams, those that can afford to keep top players out of the first team. In its own way, it simply stretches the chasm between the haves and the have-nots.

I just don't see the need for the change.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I think it's great.

Not only will it allow clubs to blood YOOFS a bit easier, it also allows teams to have GAMERCHANGERS to bring on similar to rugby.

Not sure we'll benefit unless Moyes has a drastic change over the way he uses subs though.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I don't mind it, though I think it obviously does favour clubs with more high quality players (ie. the richer ones) for obvious reasons.

The rule change I want to see trialled is having the game on a stopwatch to make timewasting harder.

Yeah I know that, obviously. These 5 subs can only be made on 3 separate occasions during the match. Get it?

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I will look forward to 5 subs if we have 5 good quality players to use. We don't have that naw do we.

Obviously it will be better for teams that actually have quality subs to bring on, to either change the way they are set up or to bring on fresh legs and maintain the quality of the team.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I t wont favour us we would need 5 players Moyes actually wants to put on the pitch from the bench.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
The number of subs has hurt Rugby - not sure it's good for football. Fitness levels and commitment over the full game were a way in which potentially lesser skilled teams could win.

In Rugby you now get the huge beasts being subbed out after 50-60 minutes so they don't have to be fit enough to play a full game - so they have ballooned in size to the point where for the most part it's difficult to tell the difference between backs and forwards.

More subs will just give an even greater advantage to those clubs that can afford to stuff not only the pitch, but also the bench with world class talent.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
Moyes was asked about using 5 subs this season in his press conference.
Reckons at the moment he is planning to use one tomorrow, 2 in October and the last 2 in the last few weeks of the season.

Re: Are we all looking forward to using 5 subs this season?
I remember last season when in one game we had 3 keepers and 2/3 youngsters on the bench. The way our transfer business is progressing it could happen again this season. I despair at the promises fans are given and we are then let down, again and again. We will be lucky to ever have 5 decent subs on the bench!
